First he could see the shape of a snake in a tree on his wooded property and fell it.

My sister wanted it in their rock garden, but he decided that people passing by would like to see it from the road way. He was right, because the wood snake attracts attention, no one who is looking that way could possibly miss seeing it.
Once he had the shape of the snake ready to paint, he primed it and then painted it the colors he wanted, and purchased eyes for in from a craft store. The snake's tongue is made out of a twig, which was painted red, and secured in the snakes mouth. It sticks out about five inches and is in the shape of a Y.
The tools used to craft the wood Anaconda snake were, a draw-knife to debark and sculpt, a knife, wood chisels, sander, and a drill and screws. Also, wood filler was used to fill in holes, and wood glue.
Anaconda snakes are among the largest snakes in the world, and are non-venomous. I saw one as a child once, and was pretty impressed with how it let people handle it. It did not seen harmful at all. But, these snakes are known for being able to swallow a medium size dog or sheep whole, and digest it. They have been know to swallow children, which is very difficult to even think about.
I grew up around small non-harmful snakes, and have always been a bit startled by them when I see them unexpectedly, but I am not afraid of them and will handle them myself and let them go back to what they were doing.
I like snakes though, and do have a wooded toy snake that I use for decorative purposes, because I like the looks of them....they are beautiful creatures some more than others. I know may people are afraid of snakes, and if they are venomous....well, them I am too.
What do you think? Would you like a big wood snake sculpture sitting in your front yard on display for everyone to see? Please, let me know your thoughts, because I know opinions can vary greatly even with the sight of a snake that isn't even real, because people can have some very strong feelings about snakes as well as phobias.
Snakes usually creep me out, but this one in the picture in kind of cute and he'd be fun to have hanging out in the back yard.
ReplyDeleteYeah, snakes creep me out too, Keri. I've held some snakes, and they were non-poison. I like wood snakes though.
ReplyDeleteNice I would like that snake in my garden, I could move it around without getting a bite!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it would stop the possums from eating all my lemons on the trees, something needs to scare them.
You know, a big snake in the yard just might scare the possums for a while.
ReplyDeleteMy sister would like the snake in the rock garden, but Al likes it up near the end of the driveway so people can see it as they pass by.
Thanks for stopping by, Elsie.
